Pay as you go cell phones are a great way to monitor how much you spend. Contracts definitely have their positives. It is great never to run out of airtime, and to be able to call whenever you need to. But if you don’t keep track of how much you are calling you can end up with an enormous bill at the end of the month. So if you are someone who likes to know how much they are spending, or really only needs a phone to receive calls then a prepaid phone is probably the way to go for you.
Cellphone service providers like Vodacom, MTN and Cell C offer specials on pay as you go cell phones. All you need is a cellphone and a starter pack and you’ll be on your way to making the calls you need to make. Prepaid starter packs are available at most stores and there is no need to visit the actual service provider outlet if there is not one close to you. When you have your starter pack you can simply buy as much credit as you need. Most often this ranges from between R12 up to R1000. So it really does depend on you. And if you want to define your own voucher amount all you need to do is buy your airtime from your bank’s ATM. Then you can define exactly how much you want to buy.
All cell phones, including Samsung and Nokia, are compatible with using prepaid vouchers. Just remember that sometimes when you purchase a cell phone it can be locked to one particular service provider. This may mean that your Nokia or Samsung can only take either Cell C or MTN or Vodacom which can be inconvenient. The best thing to do is check at the place where you purchase your pay as you go cell phone.
